OMAN CHAMBER
OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY
Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) makes all
possible efforts to stimulate the country's economic activity
through it's active and continuous participation in implementing
various development plans aimed at diversifying the national
income sources. This is achieved by encouraging the private
sector companies and establishments to set up and execute
industrial, agricultural
and commercial development projects. OCCI takes up the
suggestions and proposals of the private sector to the decision
makers in the government through the memberships in various
boards of directors of the government authorities and high
committees.
The Chamber has a big role at the international level as well,
through its constant presence at the meetings of the joint
chambers and unions.
OCCI ACTIVITIES
In order to keep pace with the ever increasing development
and growth, OCCI has created a number of specialized committees
to discuss various issues concerning the different sectors of
the economy and to put forth suggestions and ideas to rejuvenate
the national economy.
These committees are constituted with members from the public
and private sectors, representing the following areas:

SERVICES
RENDERED BY OCCI
OCCI renders several services to the business community to
assist them in implementing their projects smoothly, which
include:
ECONOMIC
RESEARCH:
The department prepares economic and technical feasibility
studies and information on investment opportunities available in
the local market, export and import volumes of various
commodities, production accessories and raw materials. OCCI
offers a number of economic consultations to local and foreign
investors on the Oman's economic situation, incentives given to
businessmen and the prominent and successful investment
areas.trade delegations through arranging meetings with
officials and businessmen and arranging visits to economic
sites, besides providing necessary information and statistics to
the delegates. The department also participates in preparing for
trade exhibitions in Oman.
TRAINING AND OMANISATION:
OCCI has always been successful in implementing the
government's training policy, whereby the expatriate workforce
can be replaced by trained Omani cadre.
PUBLIC
RELATIONS:
The public relations department of the chamber facilitates
the missions of both the incoming and outgoing trade delegations
through arranging meetings with officials and businessmen and
arranging visits to economic sites, besides providing necessary
information and statistics to the delegates. The department also
participates in preparing for trade exhibitions in Oman.
LEGAL
AFFAIRS:
OCCI provides legal consultations for trade sanctions and
tries to solve commercial disputes among local and foreign
companies amicably and satisfactorily.
LEGALIZATION:
The registration and the legalization department and the
chamber's branches in various regions of the Sultanate
facilitate registration and renewal of the chamber's member
subscription and legalize all types of business documents
including certificate of origin, commercial agencies and
authorizations.
OCCI BRANCHES
OCCI branches are situated at Salalah, Sohar, Buraimi, Nizwa,
Sur, Ibri, Khasab and Ibra.
OVERSEAS
OFFICES
As a part of the chamber's efforts to find wider markets for
Omani products and to attract foreign investments into the
country, OCCI has set up two foreign offices in Taipei, Taiwan
and Johannesburg, South Africa.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership to the chamber is mandatory for all business
establishments registered with the commercial registry at the
Sultanate of Oman.
PUBLIC
ESTABLISHMENT FOR INDUSTRIAL ESTATES
The Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) was
established by virtue of Royal Decree No. 4/93 as a judicial
personality enjoying administrative and financial autonomy.
PEIE is managed by a Board of Directors, chaired by the Minister
of Commerce and Industry. PEIE
works hard to explore effective marketing channels for Omani
products and promotes them through local and foreign
exhibitions, the media as well as the Permanent Exhibition of
Omani Products at Rusayl. It also organizes seminars and
training programmes in order to spread industrial awareness
among investors and consumers and provide them with
administrative, marketing and technical support.
Currently PEIE operates six Industrial Estates namely Al Rusayl,
Sohar, Raysut, Nizwa, Buraimi and Sur. Further to Al Mazyuna
Free Trade Zone which is located in the Dhofar governorate on
the border with the Republic of Yemen, PEIE is planning to
establish other industrial estates in the Sultanate.
At present PEIE is implementing an Information Technology Park
(IT Park, Muscat) located in Rusayl. The park will offer
comprehensive infrastructure facilities, excellent benefits and
immense opportunities to investors in the field of Information
Technology.
